Wilbert Mason

General Manager, Peter Island Resort & Spa | BVI

Biography

The Caribbean Hotelier

Wilbert Mason has spent more than twenty-five years in Caribbean luxury hospitality, and in September 2026 returned to Peter Island Resort & Spa as General Manager, the same property he led from 2008 to 2015. Few hoteliers get to run the same resort twice. Fewer still return to find it rebuilt.

A native of St Vincent and the Grenadines and a long-time resident of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Mason has built his career across the region: Sandy Lane in Barbados, Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada, Palm Island Resort in the Grenadines, The Landings in St Lucia, and Ocean Club Resorts, Regent Palms and most recently The Ritz-Carlton in Providenciales, where he served as Hotel Manager. That breadth has given him an unusually comparative view of what it costs to operate in the Caribbean, and of what the region does better than anywhere else.

He builds teams where international expertise and regional knowledge strengthen one another, and has long argued that the industry’s real constraint is not a shortage of Caribbean talent but a shortage of structured pathways into senior roles. His interest is in the training, mentorship and visible progression that let a young person entering the industry see a credible route to a director’s chair, and in making sure the region develops its own bench rather than importing one by default.

Mason holds an MBA from Regis University and dual bachelor’s degrees from Utah Valley University. He is a Certified Hotel Administrator, holds the MCFB designation, is Forbes Travel Guide trained, and has served on hotel associates tourism boards. He also leads WA Hospitality International, his regional hospitality consultancy.
