Biography

The Voice of Anegada

Lawrence “Bunchie” Kirton-Wheatley is an entrepreneur, media personality and community advocate from Anegada. Deeply committed to the advancement of the Sister Islands, he is widely known for speaking boldly about the political and social issues affecting residents across the Virgin Islands.

Bunchie spent seven years serving as Assistant Airport Supervisor at the Auguste George Airport on Anegada. His professional experience also extends to media and broadcasting. He created the popular talk show Mad and Uncomfortable, which used humour and commentary to address the political and social climate of the Territory and averaged approximately 5,000 views per episode.

In 2024, Bunchie regularly co-hosted The Morning Braff, bringing his outspoken personality and natural humour to radio audiences. In 2025, he relaunched his podcast Too Inquisitive, which was nominated for an Icon Award in 2026. Through the podcast, he has interviewed several prominent leaders, including the Governor and Premier of the Virgin Islands.

His commitment to public service was further demonstrated through his appointment as the Sister Islands representative on the Minimum Wage Advisory Committee from November 2023 to May 2024. He helped to develop the committee’s report and recommendations, which ultimately contributed to an increase in the Territory’s minimum wage.

A natural entrepreneur, Bunchie launched the popular clothing brand VI I From in 2018. More recently, he continued his entrepreneurial journey by opening Vivimara, Anegada’s first sushi restaurant, alongside his wife, Nia Douglas-Wheatley.

Bunchie is especially recognised for his advocacy for greater rights, resources and representation for the Sister Islands. His petition calling for Anegada to become the Virgin Islands’ tenth electoral district received support from the majority of the island’s voting population.

He comes from a proud family of fishermen and hoteliers and enjoys fishing and preparing meals for his friends and family. Bunchie resides on Anegada with his wife and their two daughters, Amara and Viviana, who remain his greatest source of inspiration.
